Como Rotary: A Legacy of Service and Camaraderie from 1982 to the present.

 

Chartered on November 24, 1982, with support from the Rotary Club of South Perth, the Como Rotary quickly became known for its commitment to service and fellowship. Several members have served as District Governor and Bob Shadbolt, a founding member, remains active today.

 

Over the years, Como Rotary has been involved in a variety of impactful local projects, including:

· Southern Cross Water Fountain (Mounts Bay Road)

· Tree planting initiatives (Hayman Road, Kwinana Freeway)

· An annual Classic Car Show in South Perth

· Support for Foodbank (with a trailer donation)

· South Perth Fair & Australia Day Breakfasts

· Fundraising for a school transport bus for Carson Street Special School.

We’ve supported Rotary International projects such as:
  • Rotary Youth Leadership Award
  • Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment
  • National Science Summer School 
  • PolioPlus (the Rotary global project to eradicate polio).
We have hosted Group Study Exchange groups and International Exchange students. 
In addition to our continuing and current projects of support, we have supported many local organisations such as NGALA, Esther Foundation, and the South Perth Toy Library. 
 

Como Rotary has made a regional impact with projects such as:

· Water supply projects in Solomon Islands, Bali, Timor Leste, and Uganda

· Containers of educational, medical and hand tool supplies for Timor Leste

Our on-going project efforts continue to reflect Rotary’s Service Above Self motto.

As well as service activities, we also believe in building strong social bonds in our membership through fun and fellowship, with traditions like:

  • Weekend getaways, Social dinners, Gatherings, and Picnics at member retreats, 

  • Fundraising events - Classic Car Shows, Fashion Parades, and BBQ's at shopping centres and community events.
